Your transmission transfers power from the engine to the wheels and controls how your vehicle shifts gears. It ensures smoothe acceleration, proper speed control, and optimal engine performance.

 Common symptoms include:


  • Slipping gears
     
  • Delayed or rough shifting
     
  • Grinding or shaking
     
  • Burning smell
     
  • Leaking red or brown fluid
     
  • Check Engine or transmission warning light
     
  • Vehicle won’t move in gear
     

If you notice any of these, have it inspected immediately to avoid major damage.

 The most common causes are:


  • Low or contaminated fluid
     
  • Overheating
     
  • Worn clutches or bands
     
  • Failing solenoids
     
  • Electrical issues
     
  • Lack of regular maintenance
     
  • Towing heavy loads frequently

 

  • Fluid Change: Drains and replaces part of the old fluid.
     
  • Flush: Uses a machine to replace nearly all the old fluid.
     

Flushes offer better cleaning, but aren’t always recommended for high-mileage vehicles with existing issues. A technician can advise which is safer for your car.

 It’s not recommended. Low fluid can cause overheating and major internal damage very quickly. Even small leaks should be repaired immediately. 

 With proper maintenance, transmissions commonly last 150,000–200,000+ miles. Heavy towing, poor maintenance, and harsh driving shorten lifespan significantly. 

 A rebuild involves:


  1. Removing and disassembling the transmission
     
  2. Cleaning all components
     
  3. Replacing worn or damaged parts
     
  4. Installing new seals, clutches, gaskets, and solenoids
     
  5. Reassembling and testing
     

It restores the transmission to like-new condition.

 

Transmissions are complex, with hundreds of precise internal parts. Repairs often require:

  • Extensive labor
     
  • Specialized tools
     
  • Diagnostic testing
     
  • High-quality replacement parts
     

Rebuilds or replacements take time and skill, which affects cost.

 Most jobs take 3-5 days, depending on part availability and the extent of damage. Some complex diagnostics or rebuilds may take longer.

 Pull over safely, turn off the engine, and let it cool. Overheating causes rapid internal damage. Have the vehicle towed for inspection if the problem returns.
